Adonis Stevenson is a former professional boxer from Haiti who rose to prominence in the sport during his time as the WBC light heavyweight champion.

Stevenson was born on September 22, 1977, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He began boxing at the age of 10 and quickly became known for his power and accuracy in the ring. In 2006, he moved to Montreal, Canada, to pursue a career in professional boxing.

Stevenson's professional debut came in December 2006, and he quickly established himself as a top prospect in the sport. He won his first 13 fights by knockout and captured several regional titles along the way.

In 2013, Stevenson finally got his shot at a world title when he faced Chad Dawson for the WBC light heavyweight championship. Despite being a significant underdog going into the fight, Stevenson knocked out Dawson in the first round to become the new champion.

From there, Stevenson went on a dominant run as champion, defending his title nine times between 2013 and 2018. During that span, he defeated notable opponents such as Tony Bellew, Andrzej Fonfara, and Badou Jack.

However, Stevenson's reign as champion came to a sudden and scary end in December 2018 when he suffered a devastating knockout loss to Oleksandr Gvozdyk. The punch left Stevenson unconscious and required him to be hospitalized with a severe brain injury.

Thankfully, Stevenson eventually made a full recovery and announced his retirement from boxing in 2019. His career record stands at 29 wins, two losses, and one draw, with 24 of his victories coming by way of knockout.

Despite the tragic end to his career, Stevenson will always be remembered as one of the most exciting and dynamic fighters of his generation. His punching power and impressive knockouts were the stuff of legends, and he helped bring attention to the light heavyweight division during his time as champion.

As a pioneer for Haitian boxers, Stevenson made history and proved that anything is achievable with hard work, determination, and the right mindset. His iconic rise in boxing will continue to inspire athletes and fans of the sport for years to come.
