Anderson (SC) Trojans Women's Basketball: A Small yet Strong Contender in College Women's Basketball

The world of college women’s basketball is dominated by powerhouse programs like UConn and Baylor, but there are also smaller schools that can pack some major punches. One such school is Anderson University, located in Anderson, South Carolina, whose women’s basketball team, known as the Trojans, has been making waves in Division II basketball.

In the 2018-2019 season, the Trojans finished with a record of 26 wins and only four losses, earning them the title of Conference Carolinas champions for the first time in program history. They then advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they made it to the second round, falling short in a close game against Lander University.

This season, the Trojans started off strong, winning their first five games before facing some tough competition from Division I teams like Furman and Wofford. Despite those losses, the team bounced back and is currently sitting at a respectable 10-5 record, with conference play still to come.

One of the key players for the Trojans this season is junior guard Madison Baggett, who leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game and brings energy and intensity to both ends of the court. Senior forward Alexy Mollenhauer is also contributing big numbers, averaging 11.9 points and leading the team in rebounds with 7.2 per game.

Another factor that sets the Trojans apart is their defense. They are allowing just 59.3 points per game this season, which ranks 22nd nationally in Division II.
