The Auburn Tigers are a women's basketball team from Auburn University in Alabama. Since the inception of their program in 1972, they have established themselves as one of the premier teams in college women's basketball.

In the early years of their program, the Tigers struggled to maintain a winning record. However, in 1980, the program underwent a substantial change with the hiring of Joe Ciampi as head coach. Under his leadership, the Tigers saw immediate success and went on to become one of the top programs in women's college basketball in the 1980s and 1990s.

Ciampi led the Tigers to 16 NCAA Tournaments and four Final Four appearances during his tenure as head coach. In addition, he coached several All-American players, including Vickie Orr, Ruthie Bolton, and Lea Henry.

Following Ciampi's retirement in 2004, the team continued to be a force in women's college basketball under the leadership of Nell Fortner. During her six seasons as head coach, the Tigers made five NCAA Tournament appearances and won two regular-season Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships.

The current head coach of the Tigers is Terri Williams-Flournoy. Since taking over the program in 2012, Williams-Flournoy has led the team to one NCAA Tournament appearance and three Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) appearances.

Throughout their history, the Auburn Tigers have consistently been one of the top teams in SEC women's basketball. The conference is widely regarded as one of the toughest in women's college basketball, with several teams consistently competing for national championships.

In recent years, the Tigers have faced stiff competition within the SEC from teams like South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Tennessee. Despite this, the Tigers' commitment to excellence and tradition of success make them a perennial challenger for the conference title.

In summary, the Auburn Tigers have a rich history of success in women's college basketball. Their numerous NCAA Tournament appearances, Final Four runs, and All-American players have firmly established them as one of the top programs in the nation. As they continue to compete in the SEC, it is clear that the Tigers will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
