The Colorado Buffaloes have a storied history in men's college basketball, but their women's program has also made a name for itself over the years. From star players to deep tournament runs, the Buffs have a rich tradition in women's college basketball as well.

One of the most notable players to come out of the Colorado program is Ann Troyanovich. She played for the Buffs from 1980-84 and was named a two-time All-American. Troyanovich still holds numerous program records, including career points (2,415), career rebounds (1,126) and career field goals made (971). She also helped lead Colorado to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1982.

In more recent years, the Buffs have had success with head coach JR Payne at the helm. Payne took over the program in 2016 and has led the team to three consecutive WNIT appearances. In her second season, Colorado went 15-16 overall and 5-13 in conference play. However, the team improved significantly in her third year, finishing 19-15 overall and 9-9 in conference play. This resulted in an NCAA Tournament appearance, where they advanced to the Round of 32 before falling to Mississippi State.

The Buffs have produced several standout players during Payne's tenure, including Kennedy Leonard and Mya Hollingshed. Leonard was a four-year starter who scored 1,803 career points and dished out 607 assists. She was named First Team All-Pac-12 twice and was selected in the second round of the 2019 WNBA draft by the Minnesota Lynx. Hollingshed has emerged as a star in her own right, averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in 2019-20. She was named Second Team All-Pac-12 and will be key to Colorado's success in the coming years.

Colorado has had its ups and downs in recent years, but the program remains one of the more consistent teams in the Pac-12. With a talented roster and an experienced coach, there's no doubt that the Buffs will continue to compete at a high level in women's college basketball. While they may not have the national recognition of some other programs, Colorado is certainly a force to be reckoned with on the court.
