Coppin State University is a Division I school located in Baltimore, Maryland. The Coppin State Eagles women's basketball team is part of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and has been competing at the college level since 1975.

The Eagles have had some success in women's basketball over the years. They have won a total of seven MEAC regular season titles and six MEAC tournament championships. Perhaps their most notable achievement came in 2006 when they became the first ever #15 seed in NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament history to advance to the second round.

Despite these accomplishments, the Eagles have also faced their fair share of struggles. Over the past decade, they have had difficulty consistently finishing in the top half of the MEAC standings and have not made an appearance in the NCAA tournament since that historic run in 2006.

Part of the challenge facing the Eagles is their location. Baltimore is not exactly a hotbed for women's basketball talent, and the program has had to rely heavily on recruiting outside of Maryland in order to bring in top players. This can be difficult when competing against bigger schools with more resources and higher profiles.

Another issue is the lack of facilities. The university's Physical Education Complex, where the Eagles play their home games, is outdated and in need of renovation. This can make it difficult to attract fans and recruits, as well as impact the overall player experience.

Despite these obstacles, the Eagles continue to fight and work hard to improve. Head coach DeWayne Burroughs has been with the program since 2014 and has been working to rebuild the team. He has stressed the importance of recruiting, player development, and building team chemistry.

In recent years, the Eagles have shown signs of improvement. During the 2019-2020 season, they finished with a winning record for the first time since 2014. Their leading scorer, Chance Graham, was named to the All-MEAC Second Team.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will need to continue their hard work and focus on building the program. Recruiting will be key, as well as finding ways to improve the team's facilities and resources. With dedicated coaches and players, as well as a strong commitment from the university, there is no doubt that Coppin State can once again become a force in college women's basketball.
