The Detroit Mercy Titans Men's Basketball program is a college basketball team that represents the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan. The team competes in the Horizon League and has been an integral part of the Detroit sports scene for over 100 years.

Detroit Mercy has a rich basketball history that dates back to the early 1900s when they played their first game in 1917. The Titans have played in three Final Fours, won 6 conference titles, and had 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. The team has seen some notable alumni such as Dave DeBusschere, Terry Tyler, Rashad Phillips, and Ray McCallum Sr.

In recent years, however, the program has struggled to maintain its success on the court. In 2018-19, the Titans finished with a disappointing 11-20 record. This year, the Titans started off even worse, losing their first six games before picking up their first win against Eastern Michigan.

One reason for the struggling program is due to the coaching turnover. The Titans have had four head coaches in the last five seasons, making it difficult for the players to develop consistency in their performance. However, the hire of current head coach Mike Davis could be a game-changer for the program.

Davis has had success as a head coach, leading Indiana and UAB to the NCAA Tournament and winning two Conference USA championships. He has also produced several NBA players including Mike Conley, Courtney Lee, and Robert Covington.

Under Davis' leadership, the Titans have improved on both ends of the court. Sophomore guard Antoine Davis, Coach Davis's son, leads the Horizon League in scoring with 22.2 points per game, and junior forward Marquis Moore has emerged as a dominant force averaging 15.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

Although the Titans have struggled over the past few years, the coaching change gives fans hope that the program is headed in the right direction. The addition of talented players and the experienced coaching staff has the potential to return the Titans to their former glory as one of the nation's top college basketball programs.
