The Detroit Titans women's basketball team is an underrated force in the college basketball world. The Titans compete in the Horizon League, but they have a long history of success and have produced several WNBA players over the years.

One of the most notable players to come out of Detroit’s program is Chandra Cheeseborough. Cheeseborough was a four-year starter at Detroit and led the Titans to two NCAA tournament appearances in 1980 and 1982. She went on to play in the WNBA for the Los Angeles Sparks and the Phoenix Mercury.

More recently, Senee Shearer played for the Titans from 2003-2007 and led the team to their first regular-season championship in 2006. She was named the Horizon League Player of the Year twice and went on to play professionally in Europe.

Despite having a smaller budget and less media attention than some of their conference rivals, the Titans have consistently been a competitive team. In the 2019-20 season, they finished third in the Horizon League with a record of 15-12.

The Titans also have a strong commitment to academics, with several players earning academic honors each year. In 2020, the team was recognized by the WBCA for having a perfect Academic Progress Rate score.

Detroit’s women's basketball program has also made headlines for their commitment to social justice causes. In 2018, the team wore warm-up shirts that read “End Racism” before a game against Wright State. More recently, the team participated in a solidarity march along with other Detroit teams in response to the murder of George Floyd.

Overall, the Detroit Titans women's basketball team may not be as well-known as some other programs in the country, but they have a rich history of producing talented players and making a difference both on and off the court. Keep an eye out for this underrated team as they continue to strive for success in the Horizon League.
