In 2013, Rees faced off against the undefeated Adrien Broner in a bout for the WBC lightweight championship. Despite being the underdog, Rees put up a valiant effort, but ultimately lost by TKO in the fifth round. However, his performance garnered praise from both fans and critics alike.

Beyond his achievements in the ring, Rees is also highly regarded for his sportsmanship and positive attitude. He has been a role model for young boxers, inspiring them to pursue their dreams and work hard to achieve their goals.
