The Las Vegas Locomotives were a professional American football team that played in the United Football League (UFL) from 2009 to 2012. The team was based in Las Vegas, Nevada and was owned by Bill Hambrecht.

The team's name, "Locomotives," was inspired by the city's history of serving as a hub for the railroad industry. The team was coached by Jim Fassel, who had previously been the head coach of the New York Giants.

The Las Vegas Locomotives competed in four UFL seasons, winning two championships along the way. The team had some notable players on its roster, including former NFL quarterbacks Tim Rattay and J.P. Losman, as well as running back Marcel Shipp and defensive lineman Aaron Smith.

Despite their success on the field, the Las Vegas Locomotives struggled with attendance throughout their time in the UFL. The team often played in front of sparse crowds at Sam Boyd Stadium, which was located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

In 2012, the UFL announced that it would suspend operations for the season and planned to return in 2013 with a reduced schedule. However, the league ultimately folded before a new season could be played, effectively ending the Las Vegas Locomotives' run in professional football.

While the Las Vegas Locomotives may not have made a lasting impact on the football world, they remain a footnote in the history of the game. Their success in the UFL demonstrates that Las Vegas is capable of supporting a professional football team, even if the league in which they played ultimately proved unsustainable. As the city continues to grow and evolve, it remains to be seen whether another professional football team will call Las Vegas home in the future.
