Len Cariou is a prolific and accomplished actor who has had a long and impressive career in theater. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1939, Cariou had always been drawn to the performing arts from an early age. He studied at the Manitoba Theatre Centre and later went on to win a scholarship to study at the Stratford Festival in Ontario. Despite his early success in the Canadian theater scene, it was his decision to move to New York City that would ultimately lead him to the heights of Broadway.

Cariou first made his mark on Broadway in the late 1960s when he was cast in the Tony Award-winning musical "Applause." This was soon followed by another acclaimed Broadway performance in the musical "A Little Night Music," where he played the character Fredrik Egerman opposite Glynis Johns. It was this role that earned him an Tony nomination and solidified his position as a leading Broadway performer.

Throughout the 1970s, Cariou continued to appear in numerous Broadway productions, including "Dance a Little Closer," "Sweeney Todd," and "Pacific Overtures." His work in the Stephen Sondheim musical "Sweeney Todd" earned him much critical acclaim, with many hailing his performance as one of the greatest in Broadway history. For his work in the role of Sweeney Todd, Cariou took home the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 1979.

Even as he moved into the latter part of his career, Cariou never slowed down. In fact, he continued to be a sought-after performer well into his seventies. One of his most recent and notable performances was in the Broadway production of "Broadway and the Bard: An Evening of Shakespeare and Song," which opened in 2017.
