Matthew Weiner is a creative mind that has graced the worlds of both television and theater. His works in these two industries demonstrate his ability to craft compelling stories that captivate audiences.

Matthew Weiner is best known for being the creator, writer, and executive producer of the acclaimed television series "Mad Men." The show, which aired from 2007 to 2015, was set in the 1960s and explored the lives of advertising executives on Madison Avenue. But before he became a household name in the television industry, Weiner also had a passion for theater.

Weiner graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in English literature, later enrolling in the playwriting program at the University of Southern California. During his time in college, he wrote plays that were performed in campus productions.

While studying playwriting in graduate school, he wrote a full-length play called "The Naked Man" that won him an agent, but didn’t get produced. After graduating, Weiner moved to Los Angeles and started working as a TV writer before eventually landing as a writer/producer on “The Sopranos” in its final seasons.

In recent years, Weiner has returned to his theatrical roots and collaborated with theater companies such as The New Group and MCC Theater.

In 2013, he debuted his first play "You Are Here" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts. The play dealt with themes of grief, family, and relationships in the aftermath of a tragedy. It was directed by Peter DuBois and starred Becky Ann Baker, Amy Brenneman, and Tom Cavanagh.

The following year, Weiner worked with the MCC Theater in New York City and directed "Fun Home," a musical adaptation of Alison Bechdel's graphic novel. He was brought on as a freelance director for two weeks of rehearsals so that he could help shape the show before it went into previews.

Although he is known more for his work in television, Weiner has proven himself to be a versatile artist in the world of theater. His passion and skillset have helped him bring compelling stories and characters to life on both mediums, making him a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry for years to come.
