Michigan Wrestiling Unities, Tribute To JJ Carson Tickets

Wrestling is more than just a sport – it’s a community built on strength, perseverance, and unity. In the state of Michigan, one wrestler stood out as a beacon for these values: Jonathan “JJ” Carson. A tribute to JJ Carson is not only a testament to his prowess in wrestling but also his ability to bring people together.

JJ Carson was a standout wrestler at Grandville High School in West Michigan where he won two individual Michigan High School Athletic Association state championships in 2015 and 2016 in the 140-pound division. He was also part of the Grandville team that won the MHSAA Division I team state championship both years. He continued his wrestling career at Michigan State University where he competed for the Spartans during the 2017-2018 season.

Unfortunately, JJ passed away on April 3, 2018, at just 20 years old due to complications from a head injury sustained during a match. His loss was felt deeply by the entire Michigan wrestling community and beyond.

But rather than let this tragedy tear them apart, the Michigan wrestling community came together in a beautiful display of support and solidarity. Wrestlers, coaches, family members, and friends all united to pay tribute to JJ Carson.

The unities created through JJ’s love of wrestling were evident in the various memorials held in his honor. At one event, wrestlers from all over Michigan gathered at Otsego High School to compete in the “A Knight Tribute To JJ”. This tournament was meant to celebrate the life of JJ and remind everyone about the importance of safety in wrestling.

But the unities extended far beyond the wrestling mat. The Grandville community, in particular, rallied behind JJ’s memory. They created t-shirts and wristbands emblazoned with his name, raised funds to support his family, and even renamed their annual invitational tournament to the JJ Carson Memorial Invitational.

This outpouring of love and support shows just how much the sport of wrestling means to Michigan – and how much JJ Carson meant to them. Despite the tragedy of his passing, his legacy lives on in the unities created through this community.

Wrestling is truly a bond that can’t be broken. Whether you’re on the mat or off of it, the Michigan wrestling community has shown that they’re united in more ways than one. The tribute to JJ Carson serves as a reminder of the strength, perseverance, and unity that underpin the sport of wrestling.
