Old Dominion Lady Monarchs Tickets

The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs basketball team has had a storied history in college women’s basketball. The program, which began in 1969, has won three national championships and made 26 appearances in the NCAA tournament.

The Lady Monarchs’ first national championship came in 1985 under head coach Marianne Stanley. They would go on to win two more titles in 1997 and 2002 under head coach Wendy Larry.

During their dominant run in the 1980s and 1990s, the Lady Monarchs were led by standout players such as Nancy Lieberman, Inge Nissen, and Clarisse Machanguana. Lieberman, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in women’s basketball history, played for Old Dominion from 1976-80 and helped lead the Lady Monarchs to their first national championship in 1985.

In recent years, the Lady Monarchs have struggled to maintain the same level of success they enjoyed in the past. However, under current head coach Nikki McCray-Penson, the program has shown signs of improvement. In her first season at the helm, McCray-Penson led the Lady Monarchs to a 24-6 record and an appearance in the WNIT.

Despite their ups and downs over the years, the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs remain a respected and storied program in college women’s basketball. They have produced some of the game’s greatest players and coaches and have inspired generations of young female athletes to pursue their dreams on the court.
