As 2017 draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the year in comedy. From political satire to stand-up specials, there was no shortage of laughter and entertainment in the world of comedy.

One standout moment from the year was the final episode of Saturday Night Live for 2017. Hosted by actor Kevin Hart, the episode featured sketches that poked fun at everything from holiday traditions to the ongoing sexual harassment scandals in Hollywood.

One particularly memorable sketch featured Hart as a bellhop who invites guests to a festive holiday party at the hotel where he works. The catch? The party is actually a trap set by Santa Claus, who seeks revenge against those who have been naughty throughout the year. The resulting chaos and hilarity was a prime example of SNL’s knack for blending topical humor with absurdity.

In addition to the sketches, the musical guests for the evening were none other than U2 – an unexpected but welcome choice for a comedy show. The legendary rock band performed two songs, including their latest single “American Soul.”

But SNL wasn't the only source of comedy entertainment in 2017. Netflix continued to dominate the market with a slew of comedic releases, including new specials from Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, and Amy Schumer.

Chappelle's four-part special brought him back to the forefront of comedy after a decade-long hiatus, and earned him a Grammy nomination. Throughout the series, he tackled topics ranging from race relations to Trump's America with his trademark mix of wit and brutal honesty.

Meanwhile, Seinfeld returned with a new season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which featured interviews with some of the biggest names in comedy, such as Ellen DeGeneres and Jerry Lewis.

Schumer's latest special, The Leather Special, caused some controversy when several critics accused her of using racist and insensitive material. However, many fans defended her comedy style and the special was still highly regarded in the comedy community overall.

As 2017 comes to an end, it's clear that comedy will continue to play a vital role in entertainment. From Saturday Night Live to Netflix specials, laughter has been a much-needed distraction from the chaos of the world around us. So as we ring in the new year, here's hoping for more hilarious moments and knee-slapping one-liners to come in 2018.
