Kuban was born in 1932 in Nubia, a region that straddles the border between Egypt and Sudan. He began playing music at a young age, and was inspired by the cultural heritage of his homeland. He was especially fascinated by the various instruments and rhythms that were unique to Nubia.
After moving to Cairo in 1949, Kuban quickly began to make a name for himself in the music scene. He played with some of the top musicians in the city, as well as recording his own original compositions.
Over the years, Kuban developed a unique style that blended the traditional sounds of Nubian music with elements of funk, jazz, and rock. He became known for his lively concerts that featured complex rhythms and infectious melodies.
Kuban's music also had a political dimension. He was proud of his Nubian heritage, which had long been marginalized by the Egyptian government. Through his music, he sought to celebrate and preserve Nubian culture.
