The band was formed in the late 1960s by Al Kooper, a former member of Bob Dylan's backing band. The original lineup included some of the best musicians of the time, including Steve Katz, Fred Lipsius, and Bobby Colomby. From their first album, "Child Is Father to the Man", BS&T established themselves as pioneers of a new style of music, one that combined jazz improvisation with rock rhythms and bluesy vocals.
Over the years, the band has gone through many lineup changes, with Kooper leaving after the first album, and other members coming and going. But through it all, one thing remained constant: their live shows were always top-notch. Fans came out in droves to see them perform, packing stadiums and arenas across the country.
What made BS&T's concerts so special was the energy and passion they brought to each performance. Whether they were playing a festival or a small club, they gave it their all. You could hear the sweat pouring off the musicians as they played complex arrangements with ease, switching between rock and jazz styles seamlessly.
One of the most iconic performances by BS&T was at the Woodstock Festival in 1969. They took the stage on Saturday evening, following Creedence Clearwater Revival, and played for almost an hour.
