The Bridgestone Invitational, formerly known as the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, was an annual golf tournament on the PGA Tour from 1999 to 2018. It was held at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, and was one of four World Golf Championships (WGC) events.

The tournament was known for attracting some of the best players in the world, including Tiger Woods, who won the event a record eight times. Other past champions include Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, and Dustin Johnson.

The Bridgestone Invitational was known for its challenging course and tough conditions. The South Course at Firestone Country Club is a par-70 that measures over 7,400 yards and features narrow fairways and thick rough. The course also has several daunting holes, including the famous 16th hole, which is a 667-yard par-5.

In addition to its difficulty, the Bridgestone Invitational was also known for its high purse. The total prize money for the 2018 event was $10 million, with the winner taking home over $1.6 million.

The tournament was also significant because it was one of the few events on the PGA Tour that offered no cut. This meant that all players who qualified for the event were guaranteed to play all four rounds, regardless of their score after the first two days.

Despite its storied history and reputation among players, the 2018 Bridgestone Invitational was the last. In August of that year, the PGA Tour announced that the tournament would be replaced by the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, which is held in July at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

The decision to end the Bridgestone Invitational was made in part due to the desire to move the World Golf Championships events to different parts of the world, in order to attract a more global audience. The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational is the only World Golf Championships event held in the United States.

While it's sad to see the end of an event with such a rich history and tradition, the PGA Tour remains as popular as ever, with players from all over the world competing at the highest level. And while the Bridgestone Invitational may be gone, the memories and achievements of the players who competed there will live on for years to come.
