The team plays in the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL), a Division II national conference that is home to some of the nation's top college hockey programs. The Drexel Ice Hockey team has held a steady presence in the ESCHL since becoming a member in 2007 and competing in the league’s first season in 2010.

Hockey enthusiasts will appreciate the caliber of players who have represented Drexel on the ice, including names like Kevin Phillips, who was drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2015, and current Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Chad Ruhwedel. Drexel has also been represented internationally, with Byron Bitz competing in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics for Team Canada.

The team has evolved significantly over the years, adapting to changes in the game and university regulations. In 1992, an undergraduate student named David Weir established a group of students interested in playing together. Weir and his friends went on to create a club hockey team, introducing organized competition to Drexel. The team continued to grow and expand, starting as a club sport before moving up to varsity status in 2005.

Today, the coaching staff and roster are no less impressive than those from past seasons - in fact, they're just getting better! The team’s current head coach, Thomas "Chico" Adrahtas, has over 20 years of experience coaching at various levels of amateur and minor-league hockey, including multiple high school state championships in Massachusetts.

Adrahtas has assembled a talented roster, with players representing several countries, including America, Canada, Sweden, and Armenia. With talent like that on the ice, it's no surprise that the team currently holds an impressive overall record, with a winning percentage of 63.6% over the past five seasons.

Despite facing some challenges along the way - including temporary budget cuts in 2017 that threatened the future of the hockey program - Drexel has not only persevered but has thrived. Alumni and fans have come together to show their support for the co-op student-athletes who are participating in the program while still maintaining their studies at one of the premier universities in Philadelphia.
