Hertha BSC Berlin is a football club based in the German capital city of Berlin. The club was founded in 1892 and has experienced both highs and lows over the years with regard to its performance on the European soccer stage.

In terms of domestic success, the club has won the German championship twice, in 1930 and 1931, as well as the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) twice, in 1979 and 1993. However, when it comes to European competitions, Hertha has not had as much success.

The club’s first foray into European competition came in the 1999-2000 UEFA Cup, but they were knocked out in the second round by Italian side AC Milan. They reached the quarter-finals of the same competition the following season, but again failed to progress any further after being eliminated by Spanish outfit Valencia.

Hertha have also participated in the UEFA Champions League twice, but were unable to make it past the group stages on both occasions. In the 1999-2000 season, they finished fourth in their group behind Manchester United, Valencia, and Fiorentina. More recently, in the 2020-2021 campaign, they finished third in their group behind PSG and Manchester United, but ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir.

One of Hertha’s most notable achievements in Europe came in the 2008-2009 UEFA Cup, when they reached the round of 32 before being eliminated by Belgian side Brugge. They had made it through the group stage after finishing second in their group behind Portuguese side Benfica.

Overall, Hertha BSC Berlin may not be one of the most successful European clubs compared to others in the continent, but they continue to compete and strive for success in all competitions they enter. With new investments and better player recruitment, we could see them improve their European record.
