Nam June Paik was a South Korean American artist known for his innovative works in video and performance art. Throughout his career, Paik explored various themes related to technology, media, and the human experience. One of Paik's interests was the intersection between music and technology, which can be seen in his various works related to concerts.

Paik's interest in concerts began during his time at Waseda University in Japan, where he studied musicology. During this time, he became fascinated by the possibilities of electronic music and started experimenting with tape recorders, microphones, and other technologies to create unique sounds. This led to some of his earliest works, including "Suite for Prepared Piano," which included preparations made to a piano to create unexpected sounds and effects.

In his piece "Global Groove" (1973), Paik created a video collage of images from various cultures set to a soundtrack of international pop music.
