The History of Sleep
Sleep, a pioneering doom metal band, was formed in San Jose, California, in 1990. The band consists of vocalist and bassist Al Cisneros, guitarist Matt Pike, and drummer Jason Roeder. Known for their heavy riffs and extended song structures, Sleep has been influential in the stoner metal genre.
Album Releases
Sleep released their debut album, "Volume One," in 1991, followed by the critically acclaimed album "Sleep's Holy Mountain" in 1992. Their magnum opus, "Dopesmoker," a single song divided into six movements, was released in 2003 to widespread acclaim.
Reunion and Recent Activity
After disbanding in the late '90s, Sleep reunited in 2009 for select performances. The band continues to tour sporadically and remains a prominent figure in the metal music scene.
