Soul Asylum is an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band's original lineup consisted of Dave Pirner, Dan Murphy, Karl Mueller, and Grant Young. Soul Asylum achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with their hit single "Runaway Train" from the album "Grave Dancers Union."
