The Toledo Storm was a minor league hockey team that played in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) from 1991 to 2007. During its 16-year run, the team became one of the most successful franchises in the league, winning three division titles and two ECHL championships.

The team was founded in 1991 by Toledo businessman Tom M. Kelley, who wanted to bring professional hockey to the city. Initially, the team struggled on the ice and in the stands, playing its first season at the Toledo Sports Arena with an average attendance of only 2,900 fans per game. However, the team quickly turned things around, and by its second season, it had more than doubled its attendance to over 6,000 fans per game.

Over the years, the Storm became known for its hard-nosed, physical style of play, earning a reputation as one of the toughest teams in the league. This style of play helped the team win its first championship in 1993, when it defeated the Raleigh IceCaps in a five-game series.

The Storm continued to be a dominant force in the ECHL throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, making the playoffs in 14 of its 16 seasons and winning another championship in 1994. The team's success on the ice also translated into strong support from fans, with average attendance staying above 5,000 fans per game throughout its run.

However, the team faced financial difficulties towards the end of its existence, and in 2007 it was forced to suspend operations due to a lack of funding. Despite efforts to revive the team in later years, including a failed attempt by local business owners to purchase a new ECHL franchise in 2014, the Toledo Storm never returned to the ice.

Today, the legacy of the Toledo Storm lives on through the many players and coaches who went on to successful careers in professional hockey.
