The main event of the evening was a rematch between Chris Weidman and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The two first met at UFC 162, where Weidman shocked the world by knocking out Silva to become the new champ. Many believed that the rematch would allow Silva to reclaim his title, but the outcome was even more shocking than the first fight. In the second round, Silva threw a leg kick that Weidman checked, causing Silva to break his leg in gruesome fashion. Weidman retained his championship, but the fight will likely always be remembered for Silva's injury.
The co-main event saw women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey defend her title against bitter rival Miesha Tate. The two had previously fought in Strikeforce, with Rousey submitting Tate to win the title. This time around, Rousey once again emerged victorious, submitting Tate in the third round with her signature armbar.
Other notable fights on the card included heavyweights Josh Barnett and Travis Browne battling it out, as well as Uriah Hall taking on Chris Leben in what ended up being Leben's final fight before retirement.
Overall, UFC 168 was a memorable night for MMA fans, with its historic and unexpected moments leaving a lasting impact on the sport.
