Yezda Urfa is a progressive rock band which was formed in the early 1970s. Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio this group gained a cult following in the United States and Europe with their intricate compositions, complex time signatures and fusion of Middle Eastern and Western music. Yezda Urfa’s unique sound was attributed to several factors, including their use of unusual instruments, such as the bassoon, oboe, and violin in conjunction with more conventional rock instruments.

During their brief existence, Yezda Urfa released two albums: “Boris” (1975) and “Sacred Baboon” (1989). Both albums received critical acclaim along with a fervent fan base; they were hailed as a one-of-a-kind progressive rock outfit.

Although the group disbanded before they had a chance to tour extensively, Yezda Urfa has made several appearances in the US since their hiatus. They have become synonymous with prog-rock lore and are regarded as pioneers in the genre.

Their most recent appearance was at the ProgDay festival in North Carolina in 2016 - where they performed to celebrate the re-release of their “Sacred Baboon” album.
