The Michigan Ice Hockey Officials Association (MIHOA) held its 2017 Appreciation Event on Saturday, November 18th, at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The event brought together hockey officials from across the state to recognize the hard work and dedication they put in throughout the season.

Hockey officials are often overlooked and underappreciated for their role in the game. They have a tough job ensuring the safety of players, enforcing rules and regulations, and maintaining fair play. However, without them, the game would not be possible.

The MIHOA Appreciation Event provided an opportunity for officials to come together and celebrate their contributions to the sport. The event included a luncheon, presentations, and recognition of individuals who had excelled in their roles as officials.

One such individual was Mark Czarnecki, who received the coveted Ed Johnson Award. This award is presented annually to an official who embodies the spirit of the late Mr. Johnson, who was known for his commitment to ice hockey and the officials who served the sport.

In addition to recognizing individual achievements, the MIHOA Appreciation Event also highlighted the organization's role in continually improving officiating standards. MIHOA President, Tim Higgins, spoke about the importance of education and training for officials, emphasizing the critical role that MIHOA plays in developing new officials and providing continuing education for current members.

Overall, the 2017 MIHOA Appreciation Event was an excellent opportunity to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of hockey officials across the state. Through this event, MIHOA reinforced its commitment to upholding the integrity of the sport and developing the next generation of officials.
