BUSC & RAGE College Coach Education Panel Tickets

The Boston United Soccer Club (BUSC) and the Revere Alliance for Gaming & Education (RAGE) recently hosted a College Coach Education Panel, providing valuable insights to aspiring soccer players looking to pursue higher education through athletics.

The panel consisted of six college coaches from around the country, with expertise ranging from Division I to Division III. The event was moderated by Becca DeSimone, BUSC’s Director of College Placement, who facilitated the discussion and fielded questions from the audience.

The panel began with each coach introducing themselves, providing background information on their respective programs, and detailing what they look for in potential recruits. They emphasized a commitment to academics, as well as an understanding that a player’s character and work ethic are just as important as their abilities on the field.

The coaches also discussed the importance of being proactive in the recruiting process, noting that it’s crucial for student-athletes to reach out to coaches and attend camps or showcases to get noticed.

They advised against solely relying on club/high school coaches to do the legwork, emphasizing that it’s ultimately up to the individual player to take ownership of their own recruitment.

In addition to outlining important steps for recruiting, the panelists also delved into the unique challenges of playing collegiate soccer, including the adjustment to increased physicality and the time management skills required to balance athletics and academics.

However, despite these challenges, the coaches unanimously agreed that playing college soccer can be one of the most rewarding experiences for a young athlete. It provides opportunities to meet new people, travel around the country, and compete at a high level while pursuing a degree.
