Gonzalez won the ROC Lightweight Championship and earned himself a shot at the Dana White Contender Series, where he would have the opportunity to earn a contract with the UFC.
In addition to the championship fight, Ring of Combat 61 also featured several other notable fights, including featherweight prospect Brendan Loughnane (18-3) taking on Sheymon Moraes (11-5) and former CFFC bantamweight champion Ricky Bandejas (13-4) facing Julio Arce (16-4).
